Da Bigger Da Better
Everything seems supersized in today’s society. Bigger meals. Bigger cars. Bigger bling. Yet bigger isn’t always the solution when decorating your home….or is it?!?
A Big Deal
A large selection of options is the key when choosing a rug. Stores with an abundance of inventory like ours let you actually feel and visualize how they seamlessly fit into your life.
Our hundreds of rugs – everything from 8’ X 10’ to even 12’ X 18’ – eliminate the guesswork of what a large rug will look like on your very own floor. In fact, you should test drive rugs by taking them home and trying them on for size. What looks great in a store may seem overwhelmingly oversized and out of place when you get it home.
You Say Tomato, I Say Toe-Mah-Toe
A rug isn’t just a rug: it’s a timeless work of art with specific names that designate size. A pushti is a small scatter. Once a rug reaches 40 square feet in size, it is deemed a “carpet”. After it exceeds 14’ X 24’, it is referred to as a “palace carpet”. That’s an interesting choice of words, especially when decorating your very own castle.
For Good Measure
Your specific tastes dictate how much rug you really need in a room (if you want a rug’s edge hidden under furniture or prefer it out in the open where you might possibly trip on its edge). A quick rule of thumb for your home’s needs:
Dining Room – A rug should extend 2 feet beyond every edge of the table. A dining room table with six chairs typically utilizes an 8’ X 10’ foot rug. For tables that seat eight to ten diners, we suggest a 9’ X 12” or larger. A 10’ X 14’ rug is a must for ten chairs or more. Additional furniture, such as a china cabinet or a hutch, should stand directly on the floor and not on your rug.
Bedroom – An 8’ X 10’ foot rug is ideal for most bedrooms, but consider if you want your bed placed directly on the rug or not. If you have a queen or king sized bed, a 12’ X 15’ foot rug is the perfect accompaniment.
Living Room/Den – If you have an enormous room that needs two rugs, use different sizes and patterns (although colors can be complementary). An average room that hosts a sofa, two chairs and a table can often all be artfully arranged on top of an 8’ X 10’ rug.
Natural Selection
Nobody knows your personal decorating requirements like you do, so it’s natural to have an idea of what you want. But an expert interior designer can steer you in the right direction – whether it’s for rug size, pattern or type – so the selection process is easier to embrace.
If you want a big bang from your rug, make sure to consider all of your options. From big in size to big in selection, rely on a source that has you covered from room to room.
